The weather is getting nicer (here at least) and spending more time outdoors is a must in our books! Going for walks around your neighbourhood is a good way to stay active and it can be a great teaching opportunity. We like making our walks a little more exciting by introducing a scavenger hunt!

No matter the age, kids love playing with mini cities. Whether they love zooming cars around the streets, playing with dolls or figurines in the houses, or even just the process of building something, DIYing your own city is perfect for everyone! Building a city is also a great project to keep your kids engaged and the perfect opportunity to talk about architecture and green design (in our opinion).

Looking back on 2022 we had an incredible year! This is (almost) everything we accomplished and our next goals for the new year. Thank you for spending 2022 with us and we’re looking forward to a great 2023.

Every year over 2.3 million pounds of wrapping paper ends up in landfills. The paper that does end up in recycling facilities is often thrown away because they’re almost impossible to recycle. Did you know that most wrapping paper is coated in plastic? Plus all these holiday papers have added ink, foils, and glitter which means it’s not even worth the energy to try and recycle it. There’s easier and more sustainable ways to wrap your gifts this season!

It’s time to start your holiday shopping! We’re all about supporting local businesses here at Petit Architect. We value the time and effort it takes to create and manage a small business and it’s nice to buy products from within our own community. For our gift guide, we wanted to shout out as many Vancouver small businesses as we could. We can’t wait to start shopping around BC this year! Halloween might seem like it’s still a while away but, like with everything else, it’ll sneak up fast! There’s so much to think about when it comes to Halloween. Costumes, treats, decorations, and more if you’re that kind of person. With all these things to make or buy, why not get your kids to help? Decorations are easy enough and there’s lots of options for different ages! Our personal favourite is haunted houses so we’ve curated this fantastic list of haunted house activities for kids of all ages.

A new school year often means new reading lists. Since we’re all about teaching kids on how best to protect the environment, we thought we’d share some great books for young readers about sustainability and the environment. Learn about the earth and the creatures who live here, these books are great starting points for talking to your kids about being eco-conscious.

If you follow Petit Architect on Instagram you might remember that in May we travelled to Pemberton to teach at some new to us schools. While there, we wanted to explore and check out the town a little and noticed a new neighbourhood being built. This would have been an awesome opportunity for an eco-friendly neighbourhood but to out disappointment it was the very opposite.
