DIY Haunted House Activities for Kids

Halloween might seem like it’s still a while away but, like with everything else, it’ll sneak up fast! There’s so much to think about when it comes to Halloween. Costumes, treats, decorations, and more. With all these things to make or buy, why not get your kids to help? Decorations are easy enough and there’s lots of options for different ages! Our personal favourite is haunted houses so we’ve curated this fantastic list of haunted house decorations that kids of all ages can make.

Activities for Younger Kids

Check out this spooky witches house that’s easy for younger kids to decorate. All you need to do is cut out the pieces and let the kids glue them together and decorate however they want. Easy peasy!

Teach your kids about using recycled materials while making this awesome looking haunted house village made of milk cartons! We’ve even seen some floating around made from full size milk cartons! All you have to do is paint them black and let them decorate. You could even precut some little windows and doors to make things easier, depending on the age of your kids.

Another easy one is tracing your kids hand and turning that into a haunted house! You could do this by cutting our paper like in the example below, or by drawing it.

Lastly, try making your very own popsicle stick haunted house with leftover craft supplies. You can premake the house and give the kids Halloween stickers to decorate with. This one is easily adaptable to any age!

Activities for Older Kids

Try out this haunted castle made from toilet paper rolls. We’re already dreaming up ways we could decorate this one! Print out the picture, leave some craft supplies, and let the kids do their magic! It’ll keep them busy for a while.

This haunted dollhouse requires a little more assembly but is a great craft since kids can play with it over and over again. It comes with easy to follow instruction and measurements, making it easy for older kids to follow.

If you have a group of kids and an empty wall, why not let them create a haunted house scene? Put up some paper or even a large table cloth first for easy clean up. Kids can even add to it later if they choose!

Bonus: make this popsicle stick graveyard to go with your haunted house! It’s super easy and all you need is popsicle sticks, strong or wire, and paint.

Advanced Activities

If you have a child who loves to build things and adding as much detail as possible, set them up with some scissors and cardboard to create this amazing witch house. Use the provided YouTube video with instructions or just use your imagination.
