Design Your Dream Home
Design and build your very own home! Decorate walls and floors, build your own furniture and décor, and bring your house to life using real materials by the end of the week! In this camp we will explore the interior design of a home, room by room. All supplies (including a wooden dollhouse) will be provided and students will be able to take their models home.
Interior Design
By decorating the walls and floors of their miniature homes, children will learn about interior design principles such as color coordination, pattern selection, and creating a cohesive aesthetic.
Furniture Design and Construction
Students will have the opportunity to build their own furniture and décor pieces, teaching them about craftsmanship, materials, and functionality in design.
Beautiful Boutiques
Learn about the design process and create a store concept from A to Z. Bookstores, candy shops, shoe stores, or skincare boutiques, campers can build the store concept of their dreams! In this camp we will study examples of cool store designs, create a moodboard, develop a concept from scratch, draw a floorplan, and build a 3D model. All supplies will be provided and students will be able to take their models home.
Concept Development
Through brainstorming and developing their store concepts from scratch, students will learn how to refine their ideas, consider different aspects of their design, and tailor their concepts to meet specific goals and objectives.
Floor Planning
Drawing a floor plan involves spatial reasoning and understanding of layout and flow. Children will learn how to translate their design ideas into a practical layout that maximizes space and enhances the customer experience.
Green Cities
Learn what a green city is and explore the relationship between architecture, urban design, and the environment. Using creative problem solving, we will create 2D architectural drawings and build 3D models that respect the environment around us.
Environmental Awareness
Children will gain an understanding of what constitutes a green city and why sustainable practices are important for the environment. They'll learn about concepts such as renewable energy, green spaces, and pollution reduction.
Urban Design
Kids will explore the principles of urban design, including how cities are planned, organized, and developed to create functional, attractive, and sustainable urban environments. They'll learn about zoning, transportation systems, public spaces, and infrastructure.
Habitats Around the World
In this camp, we will travel all around the world, learn from traditional architecture, and discover different types of habitats and cultures. Through 2D drawings and 3D model making, campers will explore and create with different mediums and materials.
Cultural Diversity
Students will gain an appreciation for different cultures as they explore traditional architecture from various regions around the world. They'll learn about different building styles, materials, and techniques used by different cultures to adapt to their environments and reflect their unique identities.
Geography
Traveling around the world through the lens of architecture introduces children to different geographical regions and landscapes. They'll learn about the influence of climate, terrain, and natural resources on architectural design and construction.
“My daughter is attending a week long winter camp. She was jumping and yelling ‘It’s so much fun!’ after day 1, and after day 2 she brought home a project that has a lot of design details. We’re looking forward to the rest of the camp and we’ll definitely sign up again.”
““My camp-hating son loves taking classes with Maia and her team. He attended the camp over Christmas break and a pro-D Day camp and both times came home and played with his creation for hours.”
