How to Throw Your Own Architecture Themed Birthday Party for Kids

Want to throw your child a themed birthday party they’ll never forget? Why not encourage their love of STEAM while adding in some fun arts and crafts and throw them an architecture themed birthday party! They’ll be sure to tell all their friends how much fun they’ve had and it won’t require you to spend all your time planning. This theme can be adjusted for all age groups and interests, making it THE perfect theme!

Here are some great ideas to inspire your own version of an architecture themed party:

Let’s start with the best part: THE CAKE!

There’s a variety of different directions you could go here so here’s a few you could choose from.

My son’s 3 year old birthday party had a construction theme around trucks! Super simple home made chocolate cake I destroyed and put little accessories on top :)

Over the Big Moon not only has this awesome log cabin cake idea, but she shows you exactly how to make it too! Complete with edible camp fire and all!

A slightly more traditional architecture cake, or for someone a little older, this Cake Decor design is cute!


On to the next step: THE DECORATIONS!

These don’t have to be anything fancy. We always encourage plastic free and recyclable options. Grab your wooden blocks, your legos, and create your own decor!

Or, take a trip to your local dollar store or even party supply store and you’ll be sure to find lots of great decorations that will fit your needs.Here are some things to look for:

Hostess with the Mostest shares a New York themed party where she used boxes lying around the house as giant buildings. You could even print out pictures of your child and put them in the windows!

PartyGraphix on Etsy sells these great paper light designs! Or why not try making your own, bigger version?

Do you have a doll lover at your house? Why not lean into that theme too and use dollhouses as your decor like Kara did!

Over at Kara’s Party Ideas, they used this building prop to hold some great looking cupcakes. Though they went for a superhero theme, it works perfectly for our architecture theme too!


Step three: the PARTY FAVOURS!

Not a 100% necessary step but kids sure do love taking something home with them! Here are some simple ones you can make yourself:

4EverNAlways over on Etsy makes these amazing bag toppers you can stick on the bag of your choosing. This one happens to be a bag of legos which is the perfect little gift to send the kids home with!

Dukes and Duchesses shows us how they decorated simple gable boxes as houses to use as their party favours!


Saving the best for last: THE ACTIVITiES!

You could just let the kids play their own games, hide & seek, tag, pin the hard hat on the architect, etc, but why not really jump into this theme and book one of our private workshops? From ages 5 and up, we’ll come to your house and set up a fun activity for the kids! They also get to take their models home as an amazing souvenir!

Build a tree house, design a dream house or decorate an A frame cabin…so many fun options to choose from that will get all children engaged in a fun and creative project!
